96 S10.... The Beginning
Decal and Molding Removal
This S10 truck needed the moldings taken off. First, the truck was washed before bringing it in. I pulled off the moldings by hand. then an eraser wheel was used to take the adhesive off. The decals were removed using a heat gun.
Fender Repair
The original driver side fender was too badly damaged to save. I purchased another fender that was in better shape but had some rust around the lip. I had a donor fender and cut a patch from it using a cut-off wheel. I then, using the cut-off wheel, cut out the rusted area. I used a sharpie to trace around the patch onto the new fender... I decided to do a butt weld on the patch... I used the cut-off wheel and cut the opening for the patch a bit smaller than the patch. I then used an angle grinder to cut the hole very slowly to get the opening exactly the size of the patch.
When all the cutting and fitting was done, I sandblasted the rust on the inner panel of the lip and then coated it with weld-through primer. While waiting for the welder to free up, I fixed the dent in the top of the fender using a pin welder and pulling the dent out using a slide hammer.... after that, I prepped the rest of the fender with a dual action (da) sander and 80 grit paper.. I then welded the patch in place.he body filler and finish work will take place after the patch is welded on and the welds ground down.
